Add Videos to CC via Stream/OneDrive

You can add your videos stored in Microsoft Stream/OneDrive directly to your course from within Cougar Courses. You can either do so as a link in a Module or embedded on a Page. Embedding on a Page is useful when you want to provide other content (text, images, videos) alongside the video for context. With either method, students can watch your video from within Cougar Courses.

If you are looking to add files, please see our guide on how to Add Files from OneDrive.

Important Note: When you add a video via the Microsoft Education integration in Cougar Courses, it creates a copy of your video. So if you want to update your video, you need to access the video via the link in your course, not by going directly to Stream/OneDrive.

Link to Video in Modules

  1. From Modules, go to the module where you would like to add the video and click the plus icon to the right of the module name.
  2. Choose External Tool from the dropdown menu at the top of the pop-up window.
  3. Choose Microsoft Education
  4. Choose Select OneDrive File. Wait for your OneDrive contents to load.
  5. Click on the My Files (folder) icon on the left hand menu. The next step depends on if you have already uploaded the video to OneDrive or not:
    1. If you have not yet uploaded the video:  Select the Folder you want to add the video to. Click the Upload option in the upper right of the pop-up window (if you do not see Upload, click the three dots, then choose Upload). Choose Files from the dropdown. Select the video from your computer. Wait while the video uploads, which may take several minutes. In the upper right of the pop-up window it will say "Uploading 1 file" while it uploads. Then proceed with Step b below.
    2. If you have already uploaded the video: click on the video you want to use, and then click the Select button in the lower right of the pop-up window.
  6. Scroll down in the pop-up window and edit the Page name (by default it will be the file name including the extension).
  7. Make sure "Load in a new tab" is unchecked so that students view the video right in CC.
  8. Click the "Add Item" button in the lower right of the pop-up window.
  9. The unpublished link to the video will be added at the bottom of the module. Don't forget to publish when you are ready for students to be able to view the video. To publish, click the gray circle icon to the right of the video link.

Embed Video on a Page

  1. While editing your Page, click the Microsoft Education icon in the rich content editor toolbar. If you do not see the Microsoft Education icon, select the Apps icon. If you do not see Microsoft Education in the dropdown, click on View All. Select Microsoft Education.
  2. Allow the pop-up window to load with the contents of your OneDrive (this may take a second).
  3. Click on the My Files (folder) icon on the left hand menu. The next step depends on if you have already uploaded the video to OneDrive or not:
    1. If you have not yet uploaded the video: select the Folder you want to add the video to. Click the Upload option in the upper right of the pop-up window, and choose Files from the dropdown. Select the video from your computer. Wait while the video uploads, which may take several minutes. In the upper right of the pop-up window it will say "Uploading 1 file" while it uploads. Then proceed with Step b below.
    2. If you have already uploaded the video: click on the video you want to use, and then click either Embed or Link. We recommend Embed so that students watch the video directly in Cougar Courses instead of being directed to an external site in a new tab.
  4. The video will then be embedded or linked on the Page.
  5. When finished, don't forget to Save the Page. And don't forget to publish!

Prevent Downloads

At this time, students can download videos by default. They cannot do so directly in Cougar Courses, they would need to open the video in Stream, and then click on the menu to download. So the likelihood of students downloading is small, but it is possible.

In the previous version of the LTI (called Microsoft OneDrive) there was a way to prevent downloads. Unfortunately, in this new version of the LTI there is no way to prevent students from downloading videos shared via the LTI.

If you want to prevent students from downloading your videos, please reach out to us at cchelp@csusm.edu to learn about your options.

Add Captions

It is strongly recommended that you add captions to your videos. And it is actually very easy to do!

Auto Generate & Edit Captions in Stream

If captions have already been generated and you need to make some changes, .

Upload Captions from Mediasite or Zoom

If your video was previously in Mediasite or Zoom and already had captions, you can upload those to your Stream video.

  1. If your video already had captions in Zoom or Mediasite, when you exported your video from those sites, it is likely a captions file was exported too and saved in the same folder. Mediasite exports captions in the DFXP file format. Stream will only accept captions in the WebVTT or VTT file formats. Unfortunately 糖心原创 does not have a converter, but there are free online converters that you can use to convert from DFXP to WebVTT/VTT. You will need to convert before moving on to step 2. Zoom exports captions in the VTT file format.
  2. Go to your video in Stream. Select Video settings in the upper right of the web player.
  3. Expand the Transcripts and captions section (if closed), then select Upload.
  4. In the dialog that appears, select the language of the file you鈥檙e uploading. Viewers will see this language when they turn captions on or off.
  5. Choose Select file to pick a WebVTT or VTT file from your computer.
