Add Files from OneDrive

You can easily add your files stored in Microsoft OneDrive directly to your course from within Cougar Courses. You can either do so as a link in a Module or embedded on a Page. Embedding on a Page is useful when you want to provide other content (text, images, videos) alongside the file for context.

If you are looking to add videos, please see our guide on how to Add Videos to CC via Stream/OneDrive

Important Note: When you add a file via the Microsoft Education integration in Cougar Courses, it creates a copy of your file. So if you want to update your file, you need to access the file via the link in your course, not by going directly to OneDrive.

Link to a File in Modules

  1. From Modules, go to the module where you would like to add the link and click the plus icon to the right of the module name.
  2. Choose External Tool from the dropdown menu at the top of the pop-up window.
  3. Choose Microsoft Education.
  4. Choose Select OneDrive File. Wait for your OneDrive contents to load.
  5. Click on the My Files (folder) icon on the left hand menu. Click on the item you want to link to, and then click the Select button in the lower right of the pop-up window.
  6. Scroll down in the pop-up window and edit the Page name (by default it will be the file name including the extension).
  7. Make sure "Load in a new tab" is unchecked so that students view the item right in CC.
  8. Click the "Add Item" button in the lower right of the pop-up window.
  9. The unpublished link to the item will be added at the bottom of the module. Click the Publish icon to publish to students.

Link to or Embed a File on a Page

  1. While editing your Page, click the Microsoft Education icon in the rich content editor toolbar. If you do not see the Microsoft Education icon, select the Apps icon. If you do not see Microsoft Education in the dropdown, click on View All. Select Microsoft Education.
  2. Allow the pop-up window to load with the contents of your OneDrive (this may take a second).
  3. Click on the My Files (folder) icon on the left hand menu. Click on the item you want to link to, and then choose either the Embed or Link button in the lower right of the pop-up window.
  4. The file will then be embedded or linked on the Page.
  5. When finished, don't forget to Save the Page. And don't forget to publish!

Prevent Downloads

Students can download shared files by default. They cannot do so directly in Cougar Courses, they would need to open the file in OneDrive, and then click on the menu to download.

In the previous version of the LTI (called Microsoft OneDrive) there was a way to prevent downloads. Unfortunately, in this new version of the LTI there is no way to prevent students from downloading videos shared via the LTI.

If you want to prevent students from downloading your videos, please reach out to us at cchelp@csusm.edu to learn about your options.
