Recruitment Timeline 

You may post or renew an academic internship at any time for up to one year in advance.

Ideal times to post your internship positions, according to semesters

Suggested Employer Academic Internship Timeline

Recruitment & Hiring  

• Post your internship as early as possible. Students apply for internships year-round, with recruiting activity increasing around course registration periods.
• Extend offers early when possible to allow students time to enroll in internship courses and complete any university requirements.
• Provide an offer letter that includes internship dates, schedule, pay rate (if applicable), and work modality (on-site, hybrid, or remote).
• For unpaid/stipend internships, allow additional time for completion of the required Community Partner Agreement and university review.

Before the Internship Begins  

• Confirm the intern's start date and work schedule.  
• Schedule orientation and onboarding activities.
• Prepare training materials, equipment, and system access.
• Establish supervision, communication, and learning expectations. 

During the Internship

• Hold regular supervisor check-ins (recommended weekly).
• Provide meaningful, career-focused learning experiences.
• Verify internship hours and sign timesheets as requested by the student.
• Provide ongoing feedback and mentorship. 

Last month of internship

• Complete the Site Supervisor Evaluation provided by the student.
• Conduct a final meeting or exit interview.
• Verify final internship hours and complete any remaining documentation.
