About Physics
Department of Physics
At Cal State San Marcos, our Applied Physics program turns curiosity into discovery. Learn how the universe works — and how to use that knowledge to solve real-world problems in technology, energy, and beyond.
From your first semester, you’ll explore physics through small classes, hands-on labs, and close collaboration with faculty who are passionate about both teaching and research. Whether you’re starting college or transferring, you’ll gain the experience to think like a scientist — and the skills employers want.
Department Highlights
- Small classes and personalized mentoring
- Faculty-led research and project-based labs
- Career and transfer preparation for STEM fields
- Inclusive community where everyone belongs
Our faculty research spans all four states of matter — solid, liquid, gas, and plasma — as well as physics education, offering students the chance to take part in real discoveries. You’ll use the same tools and technologies found in today’s research labs and industries, with a curriculum that emphasizes experimentation, problem-solving, and collaboration.
At ÌÇÐÄÔ´´, curiosity drives discovery — and physics opens doors to endless possibilities.
