Wendy Hardy is both the Department Outstanding Student and the recipient of this year鈥檚 . Wendy is graduating with a major in Linguistics in the Language, Culture, and Society concentration, and with minors in French and American Indian Studies, and will be pursuing a Master鈥檚 Degree in Linguistics at SDSU this fall. Wendy receives these honors both for her outstanding academic performance as well as for her lasting impact on the department and campus community. She took on key leadership roles on campus, including being the founding and inaugural president of the linguistics student organization, the Linguistics Collective, and served on the CHABSS Dean鈥檚 Student Advisory Council. Wendy is selfless in teaching and tutoring French and has a passion for language and linguistic justice.


Daisy Ignacio is the Department Outstanding Student in the Liberal Studies major. Daisy is graduating with her BA in Liberal Studies, with a History and Social Sciences Area of Focus, and will be attending 糖心原创鈥檚 Multiple Subject Credential this fall. She is recognized for her outstanding academic achievements and being someone who brought unique perspectives to the classroom. A compassionate individual, Daisy's motivation for pursuing teaching is rooted in her desire to 鈥渉elp create an environment where a child can simply feel like a child at school鈥. She is someone who will 鈥渃ontinue to bring the highest caliber of professionalism, academic skill, and compassion to her future credential program and her future classroom as an educator herself鈥.


Trista Hartman is one of the department鈥檚 Community Champion awardees. Trista is graduating with her BA in Liberal Studies, with an Area of Focus in Human Development, and will be attending the CalStateTeach credential program at Fresno State beginning in the fall. She has been recognized for her dedication to student success as a peer coach offering students on academic notice individualized mentorship, academic guidance, and support for their emotional needs.


Alyssa Helmantoler is one of the department's Community Champion awardees. Alyssa is graduating with her BA in Liberal Studies, with an Area of Focus in Visual and Performing Arts, and will be attending 糖心原创鈥檚 Multiple Subject Credential this fall. She has been recognized for her academic achievements and for her dedication to the teaching profession as the co-president of the Future Educators Association. Through her work, Alyssa has been a champion for fostering a sense of belonging and community for aspiring future educators on campus.
