A general history degree requires 24 lower-division units and 33 upper-division units. Students pursuing a general history degree will be able to develop critical thinking skills and be able to defend and develop historical arguments. For more information, visit the history major page.
A history major with single-subject preparation for teaching allows students who are interested in teaching to waive the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in History/Social Science. This degree requires 30 lower-division units and 46 upper-division units. It is required for students pursuing this degree to complete a portfolio of their coursework with a written reflection. Students pursuing a history minor must complete 21 units of historical study. 12 of those credits must be upper-division levels. Reach out to academic advising for more information and visit the history minor page.
