Meet the Faculty

  • Carol Lovci DNP, MSN, PHN, CHPN
    Carol Lovci DNP, MSN, PHN, CHPN, is a palliative care nurse and QAPI coordinator for a Southern California Hospice and Palliative Care organization. Her clinical focus is on end-of-life care, symptom management, and ensuring quality patient care and outcomes. She has more than 2 decades of experience in hospice and palliative care, and 2 decades in higher education. Her focus is on advancing knowledge and skills for clinicians as well as care providers, navigating crucial conversations along the way.
  • Deena O鈥橲hea RN, MSN, OCN, NE-BC, INHC, CFM

    Deena O鈥橲hea currently serves as the Director of Scripps Cancer Center Clinics. Prior to her appointment at Scripps, she was the Director Hospice and Palliative Care, a program of Sharp HealthCare located in San Diego, CA. She also has a long tenure at UCSD in leadership roles in the Hematology-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Divisions. Of note she also served for several years at Stanford as the Director of the Cancer Center.

    As a lifelong learner, Deena continues her education, most recently in integrative and functional modalities for palliative and end of life patients medicine and holds certification in integrative nutrition and functional medicine for nurses.

    She has had a rich trajectory of clinical education, and administrative experiences over her tenure as a professional advanced practice nurse. She is a strong patient and nurse advocate and loves sharing knowledge and learning from nurses across generations.

    Deena鈥檚 interests and work life balance activities include spending time with her two grandchildren, her mini-Aussie, reading, cooking, hiking, biking, travel and the arts.
