Center Mission and Scope of Work
Mission
The Climate Action and Sustainability Center at ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ aims to advance educational, research, and engagement activities focused on climate change, climate justice, and sustainability, positioning ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ as a regional leader. These initiatives, rooted in scientific understanding, prepare students from all disciplines to address the climate crisis with practical, solution-oriented approaches. The Center serves as an interdisciplinary, innovative, and inclusive resource for the university, embodying a hopeful, courageous, and holistic perspective.
Scope of Work
The overarching scope of work is as follows
- Support curricular and co-curricular activities for students to gain knowledge, understanding and hands-on learning experiences within the fields of sustainability, climate change, climate justice, and how they relate to future careers.
- Serve as a resource and support for faculty seeking to adjust pedagogy, develop research and provide service opportunities.
- Facilitate collaboration of campus community members as well as external stakeholders on initiatives and planning related to climate change, climate justice, and sustainability for our region and globally.
- Collaborate on funding opportunities to continue to grow the Center’s ability to serve as a regional hub of engagement and activities within climate change, climate justice, and sustainability efforts.
The scope of work includes curricular and co-curricular activities, research and creative projects and grants, leadership, campus engagement, and community outreach.
The Center’s mission aligns with the university’s Strategic Planning Goals of sustainability and climate justice, focusing on the interconnectedness among societies, all living beings and ecosystems by ensuring socially just, ecologically sound, and resilient communities that value diversity, innovation, fiscal stewardship, health, and well-being for all by creating a positive local to global impact for current and future generations. Recognizing that climate change amplifies socioeconomic disparities, climate justice is a lens through which social justice principles are incorporated into sustainability.
