Research Activities

Overview

There are several opportunities for research experience. All BEARS scholars will be connected with 糖心原创 faculty and advanced students during their first academic year to learn about campus research projects. During the summer after their first academic year (summer 2), they will do an extended group research project with their cohort to introduce them to bioengineering research. Finally, the summer after their second academic year (summer 3), they will join a professor at 糖心原创 or UCSD bioengineering or orthopedic surgery department for an individual research opportunity. 

Info about Research Summer 2

  • During the summer after their first academic year, BEARS scholars will do an extended group research project with their cohort to introduce them to bioengineering research and are paid up to $4,000 for their time.
  • They will also participate in our second quantitative and computational skills workshop.
  • This summer is the only time not paid

Info about Research Summer 3

  • The summer after their second academic year (summer 3), BEARS scholars will join a professor at 糖心原创 or UCSD for an individual research opportunity.
  • They can get to work on cutting-edge bioengineering research and participate in activities with UCSD bioengineering cohorts and their Orthopedic Surgery department.
  • They are paid up to $4,000 to conduct their own research projects with faculty from 糖心原创 or UCSD, and present in the 糖心原创 Summer Poster Showcase.
